Welcome to GLADvent day Twenty! Yesterday we had the word Love.

Oh my word – it would turn up now, wouldn’t it! I’m feeling a little tender,  and though Love is the perfect word (well, it always is isn’t it….), I don’t feel like digging up my own response right now… so I’m going to share with you one of the poems I wrote this weekend.

This was for a woman who wanted to have a poem about…

Being in love with a grumpy old man

It’s not always easy

to laugh at jokes

that at times

seem older than you

(and that’s saying something)

but it’s true

that the grumpy old man wrapping

hides a gift

you only show

when we’re at home

that kind, soft, sensitive side

is why I love

that grumpy old man

who wraps his warmth

in sarcastic cynicism

and refuses to imbibe

of the sweetly mulled

Christmas cheer

and yet

when no one else is near

the smile comes out

the loving words

the tender looks

yes, I’m hooked

on my grumpy old man

Ok, onward – to 20!

Roll over, roll over…

FOOD: “After a good dinner one can forgive anybody, even one’s own relations.

– Oscar Wilde

Now take a moment to pause and reflect upon how Food has shown up in your life recently. Is there a particular favourite food, for you or your family, at this time of year? Do you like to cook? What does sharing a meal mean to you? Have you ever gone without, by choice or otherwise?

Twenty stockings turned! Only Four more left until the big day! 🙂 Hope to see you tomorrow for number 21.

Do continue to share your thoughts and reflections in the comments section below as you wish…
