I took my unquiet mind
for a walk in morning’s first breaths
as the sun stretched sleepy rays
through the trees
to ignite the humble dew
suspended from a leaf
in the hedge
now clear and bright as crystal
I gasped
as uninvoked reverence
ran wild through my being
and I rode it fast and free
deep into the lands beyond perception
in search of the source
of this unchecked love
on finding none
I returned to witness
my hand
independently and unbidden
reach out to touch
that leaf in the hedge
in affirmation of the richness
of its indefinable worth
and so disturbed the dew
staining my fingertip
with light
Oh Harula this is wonderful and a perfect exampke of being mindful. I have just embarked on a pain management programme at the hospital. It runs for quite a few months every Thursday afternoon and involves a great deal of mindfulness. We have to take one thing this week and do It mindfully. Your gorgeous poem reminded me to begin thinking of something to practice. It’s not an easy one. I tried mindfully chopping veg today but was in too much pain during the shopping. I tried taking my shower mindfully but again there is too much pain going on. So roday I thought about mindfully eating my meal this evening; I think that may work well.
Your affirmation poem Is so beautiful.
Love and hugs ️xxx
Thank you Christine 🙂 I’m glad you enjoyed this and it’s a blessing to me to know it comes across as a reminder of mindfulness, for that it what I am trying to cultivate in my life and it’s nice to know it’s coming through! I’m so sorry you find yourself so often in pain, but also very glad that such a program is available to support you. Eating your meal mindfully sounds like a great option, may it nourish you on levels that go beyond the food! With huge hugs, Harula xxx
This is gorgeous, Harula. I know I’ve said it before, but your poetry brings me back to the present moment and fills me with wonder. I am in a taking-it-a-moment-at-a-time place in life right now, so this is a lovely reminder of the power of a moment! Hugs to you.
Thank you so much Jill 🙂 You can say it as many times as you like, it’s a huge compliment! I think ‘wonder’ is such an important quality, and I find it’s easy for me to lose my access to it as a ‘busy, responsible, rational adult’! Being in the moment helps to cultivate that awareness that there is always something to be in awe of, for life is so full of unseen, unrecognized miracles. Thanks again for your kind and insightful comment. Blessings, H xxx
“There is always something to be in awe of” — so well said, Harula! Such an important thing to remember. 🙂
I realized, upon reading this poem, that you are my favorite poet! You spoke to me, about me, through me, and all over me. You say what I feel, but am most times unable to verbalize. And I certainly don’t know how to say it as lovely as you do. Thank you.
I don’t know what else to say, so I think I’ll just have to settle for, gosh, thank you very, very, very much…and no pressure now right 🙂 Huge happy hugs, Harula xxx
No pressure, because you always just write from the heart. And that’s all that counts. xo
Such presence in a moment, gorgeous and sacred.
Sacred indeed, and I’m so glad that came across. May you be blessed with many such moments 🙂 Thanks so much for reading and commenting, Harula x
