So it’s Week 23, and the half way point is almost within reach!

May I again appreciate my dear ‘Good Deed friend’, Rosie, the inspiration for all these posts. Do go and see what she’s been up to this week.

Sunday 20th October

Cleaned my room at the retreat house with lots of love and care before leaving. Went to the creperie/juice bar my Mum and a friend run to help out for the afternoon, as my mother was still away in England.

AND good deed(s) received:

Warm goodbyes from the women I’d shared the retreat house with, and lots of lovely comments and messages waiting for me when I dropped in on the virtual world I’m part of here:-) A lovely hug from an old colleague who has returned briefly and worked with me on a care shift that night.

Monday 21st October

Posted my week of Good Deeds and sent out some blog love, following a brief absence while I was on retreat. Sent web links to a couple of interesting talks to an English student of mine. Spent an hour with the gorgeous six month old son of a dear friend, so she could have some ‘her time’.

AND good deed(s) received:

Another inspiring chat with a current English student of mine, from whom I truly seem to receive at least as much as I ever give. Enthusiastic appreciation from a man who attended my most recent creative writing workshop.

Tuesday 22nd October

Did a volunteer shift with a friend in a precious garden, and offered to lead a discovery games session for a friend next week. Spent about half an hour in our community library finding the books I had recommended to a student of mine, so I could give them to her when we next meet. Wrote an email to a dear friend to update her on my life and generally connect.

AND good deed(s) received:

More DELICIOUS edible thank yous from the garden, in the form of apples, potatoes, leeks and rocket. A very warm hug from a friend I’ve not seen much recently – I spoke into the hug that I missed him and he spoke the same back. We’ll meet up properly soon.

Wednesday 23rd October

Gave a hug to a friend I often bump into in town, but always at a time when I’m in a rush…which I wasn’t today. ‘Oh, so you’ve got time for a hug today,’ he said lightly and with humour. (gentle) Ouch…thanks for the reminder. Brought some Halloween inspired chocolate biscuit treats for a young neighbour.

AND good deed(s) received:

I was able to leave a caring shift a little early thanks to a generous colleague, so I could get home and make it welcoming for my Mum coming home after a fortnight away. Was treated to lunch by a friend and colleague, and we dived into a deep chat quite quickly which was at least as satisfying as the delicious food! Was invited by another friend/colleague to lead a creative writing session for an upcoming workshop she’s running.

Thursday 24th October

Took myself on a walk, picking up twigs for the fire and taking time to sing to the river, swollen to great pre-winter splendour, when I reached her. Hung out Mum’s wash in the welcome bright Autumn sunshine, as she was running late. Received a parcel on behalf of an elderly neighbour, who was out on her weekly trip to the hairdresser’s, and brought it round later when she returned.

AND good deed(s) received:

Mum cooked us a delicious dinner which I could almost smell from the car as I returned home from a busy afternoon of English lessons. Had a very inspiring and heart opening talk with the last student of the day which left me smiling and feeling warm, in spite of the evening chill, all the way home.

Friday 25th October

I bought a book case for my mother from a local re-use/recycle centre as she had brought up more of her books that were in storage when she came back from a trip down to England recently, and there’s nowhere to put them!

AND good deed(s) received:

A colleague made a point of appreciating me enthusiastically for some writing work I’d done livening up and bringing up to date a leaflet that promotes the English Language course I’ve been teaching on here for many years. One of my English students thanked me warmly for the book I lent her, saying she couldn’t put it down and it was just what she needed. It’s a beautiful book that’s calmed me out of some serious road of life pot holes in the past, as it makes me smile and smiles are a great ladder…Thich Nhat Hanh is a true master of the inner and outer smile:-)

Saturday 26th October

Helped my Mum in the Creperie and juice bar this morning, as her business partner was off for the day, and their regular helper couldn’t come until the afternoon. Had several conversations with my brother on the phone, who had lots to share today:-) Sent out some blog love, and made a new blogging friend whose writing and vision I find very inspiring. Check out:

AND good deed(s) received:

Received an invitation form a friend to have coffee next week, as I think it’s been over a month since we last met up…and we only live about 15 minutes from each other by car! Add to that invitation the blessing of her friendship and patient understanding as another Good Deed received.

Wishing you all a wonderful week dear friends:-)
